Jesus most clearly states in His Word that NO ONE will know the day or the hour in which He will return. If everyone knew the day and the hour the Lord would return then many people would live like the heathen until that moment, but instead God has a definitive purpose for us all. He wants us to live well and obey His commandments for a very good reason - He is protecting us. Nothing good ever comes about from disobeying God.
But of that day and hour, knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but My Father only. Matthew 24:36
Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Matthew 24:42
Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.Matthew 24:44
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh. Matthew 25:13
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man -- no, not the angels who are in Heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father. Mark 13:32
But if that servant say in his heart, `My lord delayeth his coming,' and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink and be drunken, the lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him asunder and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, who knew his lord's will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. Luke 12:45-47
I highly recommend reading the entire chapter of Matthew 24 (posted to the left) because the entire chapter is about the very day of the Lord's coming.
All eyes should be on God, focusing on preparing ourselves to meet Him, and witnessing to others about the good news of Jesus Christ so that the entire world may be reached and have the opportunity to make a decision to follow Jesus or follow Lucifer.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14
It is the goal of Satan to distract people away from that primary purpose as much as possible. As long as he can keep people focused on ungodly things, then he knows that the human mind will wander, be easily tempted and led astray so cleverly that one will not even notice how far they have strayed.
And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a season. Luke 4:13
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy 4:1-3
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 1 Peter 5:8-9
These people who make such predictions as December 21st, 2012 being "doomsday" and "the end of the world" go by many different names such as sorcerers, witches, psychics, wizards, alchemist, augurer, charmer, clairvoyant, conjurer, diviner, enchanter, fortune-teller, magician, medium, necromancer, occultist, seer, shaman, soothsayer, sorceress, thaumaturge, warlock.
The dictionary defines "sorcerer" as "one who practices magic or sorcery." [ WordNet® 3.0. Princeton University. 19 March 2009]
Another dictionary defines it this way:
"from the Latin sortiarius, one who casts lots, or one who tells the lot of others. (See DIVINATION.) In Daniel 2:2 it is the rendering of the Hebrew mekhashphim, i.e., mutterers, men who professed to have power with evil spirits. The practice of sorcery exposed to severest punishment" (Malachi 3:5; Revelation 21:8; 22:15). [Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary. 19 March 2009]
"And I will come near to you in judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and those who turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me," saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:5
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Revelation 21:8
Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the Tree of Life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For outside are dogs and sorcerers, and whoremongers and murderers and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Revelation 22:14-15
The field is the world, the good seed are the children of the Kingdom, but the tares are the children of the wicked one. The enemy that sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the world, and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be at the end of this world. Matthew 13:38-40
These people have always made predictions and they have always been wrong because the source of their information comes from Satan and his demons. The only source of information they have is the past because they only thing they can see is the present. They do not have the power or ability to predict the future. Only God knows what the future holds. God knows the past, present and future. God is the author of the 66 books of the bible. He knew you and He knew me before we were ever born. No one else has that ability and no one else ever will. God alone holds that power. [See also Psychics — Witchcraft]
The bottom line here is this - Jesus is coming very soon. This December 21st, 2012 prediction is a distraction from the pit of hell, folks. Jesus is coming back and it will be a day of glory for those who are followers of Jesus Christ. Only for those who refuse to accept Christ will face a day of doom and gloom but we are not talking about "just a day" either - we are talking about an eternity, forever and ever. Jesus tells us to be prepared.
Jesus is coming soon. Will you be ready?
